Leader ki apni ek alag pehchan hoti hai. Leader banana har koi chahta hai but ye sab ke bas ki baat nhi hoti. Leader banne ki apni qualities hoti hai, apni ek alag attractive personality hoti hai. Leadership has nothing to do with seniority or one’s position in the hierarchy of a company. Ek company ke leadership organization me sabse senior executives ki referring karte huye baat karte hai. They are just that, senior executives. Jab aap ek certain pay grade tak reach kar jaate hai tab isse automatically leadership nhi milti hai. Kisi company me sabse jyada paise kamana kabhi bhi leader banna nhi kehlata. Hopefully you find it there, but there are no guarantees. Kabhi-kabhi kam salary waale person bhi apni company ke liye leader ban jaate hai.
Leadership has nothing to do with titles. Ye point bhi upper point se almost similar hi hai, Just because aapke paas ek C-level ka title hai to, aap automatically ek leader nhi ban jaate hai. Hum mostly is fact par bal dete hai ki lead karne ke liye ek title ka hona jaroori nhi hai. Aap chahe to apne workplace, apne neighborhood ya apne family me apni thoughts or apne behaviour se ek leader ban sakte hai. You just have to understand yourself.
Leadership has nothing to do with personal attributes. Jab koi person khud ke liye “leader” word use karta hai to uske mind me ek domineering ( अत्याचारी ), take charge or charismatic (magnetic personality) individual ki soch aa jati hai. People aise me icons of history ke bare me sochte hai like General Patton or President Lincoln. But should never forget that leadership isn’t an adjective. Hume kisi extroverted ya leadership practice karne ke liye charismatic ki jaroort nhi hai and those jinke par charisma hai, woh automatically lead nhi kar sakte.
Leadership isn’t management. This is the big one. Leadership or management koi synonymous nhi hai. Aapke paas downline or P&L responsibility me 20 log hai? If yes, then good for you, hopefully ki aap ek good manager ho. Good management is needed. Managers ko plan, measure, monitor, coordinate, solve, hire, fire and so many other things karne ki jaroort padti hai. Managers apna most of time cheezo ko managing karne me laga deta hai. But ek leader other peoples ko lead karta hai, to acheive their goal, motivate them that they can do so. Thats why management or leadership dono hi ekdum different things hai.

- Peter Drucker: “The only definition of a leader is someone who has followers.”
Really? Apni statement ko ek example se simplistic banna like dangerous bhi ho sakta hai. Ek new Army Captain 200 soldiers ki command me rakha jaata hai. He never leaves his room or utters a word to the men or women in his unit. Shayad routine orders ek subordinate ke through hi diya jaata hai. By default vo apne troops (seniko) ko orders ko follow karne ke liye kehta hai. But, Kya vo Captain sach me ek leader hai? Vo commander jaroor hai but hum use leader nhi keh sakte. Drucker ofcourse ek brilliant thinker hai, but unki yeh definition bahut jyada simple hai or yeh ek leader ko define karne ke liye enough nhi hai.
- Warren Bennis: “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.”
Inka kehne ka matlab hai ki vision ko reality me translate karna hi leadership kehlata hai. Agar aap every spring season ko ek garden me lots of work karne ke baad vegetables ka vision dekhte hai or usse reality me bhi badal dete hai, to kya aap ek leader kehlaoge? No guys, you are a gardener. Ek leader ki yeh definations hargis nhi ho sakti. Unki defination ek motivation ka kaam jarur karti hai but Bennis’ definition seems to have forgotten “others.”
- Bill Gates: “As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others.”
Iss definition me jo “others” or empowerment include huya hai this is a good thing. But to what end? Humne kafi life me others ko empowered dekha hai from rioting (Danga), hooligans (gunda), to Google workers jo company me misaligned the unhone khud ko unemployed manna hai. So Gates ki definition lacks goals and vision jaisi hai. Unki defination ek company ke head ko jarur define karti hai but ek leader ke liye yeh defination kafi nhi hai.
So guys what is leadership?
DEFINITION : Leadership social influence ka ek process hai jisme dusro ke efforts ko maximizes kiya jata hai for the achievement of a good and better results. Ab hum kuch or elements ki definition dekhte hai:
- Leadership stems from social influence, not authority or power.
- Leadership requires others, and that implies they don’t need to be “direct reports.”
- No mention of personality traits, attributes, or even a title; there are many styles, many paths to effective leadership.
- It includes a greater result, not influence with no intended outcome.
Leadership action ek mindset hai. So iske liye titile ka wait na kare. Leadership isn’t something that koi bhi aapko ye de sakta hai – ye aapko earn karna padta hai and claim it for yourself.
